ITU values the traditional arts of the humanity as a whole and takes action to convey these traditions to the next generations both in a local and global aspect. The Center for Advanced Studies in Music (MIAM) brings the representers of various
cultures from all over the world into the campus and holds free workshops and seminars.
MIAM together with the conservatory, organizes an international microtonal guitar competition each year. The first adjustable microtonal guitar was invented in 2008 by Tolgahan Çoğulu, who is a proffesor in ITU conservatory. With this occasion,
ITU contributes the microtonal music of the East to spread towards the West cultures.
